3D and Illuminated Signage in Dubai: How a Flat Sheet Becomes a Lit Letter
A letter on a shopfront started the week as a flat sheet of aluminium leaning against a wall. 3D and illuminated signage in Dubai is mostly sheet metal work with electronics hidden inside, and once you have watched one letter get built the finished sign stops looking like a mystery.

What happens to your order before it reaches you.
Five steps, from the brief you send us to the moment it is in place.
The Outline Is Cut
The letter shape is cut from flat sheet, which becomes the face or the back depending on how it will be lit. At this stage it is a flat letter you could slide under a door.
The Return Is Folded Around It
A long strip of aluminium, the return, is bent to follow the outline and fixed around the edge. This is what turns a flat shape into a box with depth. The depth is not styling. It is the space the light needs in order to spread evenly.
LEDs Go In and Get Wired
Modules are laid inside on a grid and wired back to a driver. Spacing is calculated against the depth. Too few modules in a deep letter and you get bright spots with shadow between them, which is the most common fault on cheap illuminated signs.
The Face Goes On Last
An acrylic face is cut to the same outline and seated into the return. Front lit letters glow through this face. Halo lit letters have a solid face and throw their light backwards onto the wall instead, which needs the letter standing off the surface on spacers.
Lit, Checked, Crated
Letters are assembled into their running order, powered up, and photographed lit before crating. On site they go onto a pre drilled template so the spacing matches the drawing exactly.
Not everything about this is good news. LED modules are rated in hours and they do not all fail at once. After several years you will see one letter sitting slightly dimmer than its neighbours, and the fix is to relamp the whole sign, not the one letter you noticed.
