Wooden Cutout Letters in Dubai: What the Router Bit Leaves Behind

The Bit Leaves a Rough Edge
Straight off the machine, the edge is fuzzy with torn fibres, especially on plywood where the cut crosses the layers. Sanding this back is a hand operation on every letter and it is the step a cheap job skips.
Plywood Shows Its Layers
The striped edge of plywood is either a feature or a problem depending on the interior. Left clear sealed it is a deliberate look. Painted, it needs filling first or the stripes telegraph through the colour.
MDF Takes Paint Perfectly
Where the letter will be painted a solid colour, MDF gives a far better result than plywood because the edge is uniform and takes filler and primer cleanly. It is also noticeably heavier than people expect.
Sealing the Edge Comes Before Colour
Cut edges on both materials are thirsty and will drink paint unevenly, leaving a patchy border. Sealing first is what gives a flat even finish on the edge as well as the face.
Counters Need Clearance
The enclosed spaces inside letters like A, O and R have to be large enough for the cutter to turn. On a fine typeface at small sizes these can close up, so we check the font at final size before cutting.
Mounted Flush or Standing Off
Flush against the wall for a graphic look, or on studs for a shadow. Light letters mean fixings are rarely a constraint.
The honest comparison with solid timber is this. Routed board is cheaper, lighter and more stable in air conditioning, and it does not have real grain running through the thickness. From the front, painted, nobody can tell. Clear sealed and viewed from the side, the difference is plain.
