3D Vertical Signage in Dubai: Reading a Sign Down a Street
A vertical sign projects out from a building and is read side on by people moving along the street. That geometry changes everything. 3D vertical signage in Dubai goes on hotels, towers and narrow frontages where a sign flat against the wall would only be seen by somebody standing directly in front of it.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
It Is Seen From an Angle, Never Head On
Almost nobody reads a vertical blade sign straight on. They see it at a shallow angle from along the pavement, which means both faces matter and the edge thickness is part of the design.
Letters Stack, Which Suits Short Names
Characters run down the sign one above another. Short names work. Long ones become a very tall sign or very small letters, and this is usually where a brand has to abbreviate.
The Bracket Is a Structural Item
Everything hangs off the wall fixing. The bracket carries the full weight plus wind load acting on a sign held out from the building, so it is engineered and not simply selected, and the wall build up has to be confirmed before anything is made.
Both Faces Are Built as One Box
A vertical sign is a double sided box lit from within, with identical faces. Internal baffles keep each face lit evenly and stop light from one side washing across to the other.
Height Decides the Letter Size
These usually sit above first floor level, so letters are scaled for a reader looking up from the pavement opposite. We work from the actual street width, which in older parts of the city is often narrower than people assume.
Installed With Access Equipment
Fitting a projecting sign means working above a pavement, so it is scheduled with proper access and usually outside trading hours.
We should raise this early. Projecting signs almost always need permission, because they sit over a public pavement. That approval governs how far it may project, how high it must clear the ground and sometimes whether it may be lit at all.

Setting up your file.
- 01Send the logo as a vectorLetters and shapes are cut from your outlines, so we need AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, not a screenshot or a JPEG.
- 02Measure the real spaceWidth, height and a straight-on photo of the wall or fascia. The tape measure often disagrees with the drawing.
- 03Send names as textFor plates and directories, send names and titles in a document, so nothing is retyped from an image.
- 04Tell us about power and the wallFor lit signs, where the nearest power point is. For every sign, what the wall is made of.
