Outdoor and Hoarding Banners in Dubai: A Year on a Fence

An outdoor banner has a harder job than an indoor one, and the thing that kills it is almost never the sun. It is wind. Outdoor and hoarding banners in Dubai spend their lives being pushed and released a few thousand times a day, and nearly every decision we make during production comes back to that.

Before it reaches you

What happens to your order before it reaches you.

Five steps, from the brief you send us to the moment it is in place.

01

Week One: It Goes Up Tight

A new banner is pulled drum tight across the fence and tied at every eyelet. Tight is the point. A slack banner behaves like a sail, and a sail pulls against its fixings instead of sitting still.

02

Month Two: The Wind Finds the Weak Eyelet

If eyelets were spaced too far apart, this is when you see it. The material starts to lift between two of them and a small tear opens from the hole outward. Closer spacing on the long edges costs almost nothing and prevents the whole failure.

03

Month Five: Mesh Earns Its Keep

On a tall or exposed run we print on mesh instead of solid PVC. Mesh is perforated, so wind passes through it and the banner stops behaving like a sail. It looks very slightly softer up close and identical from the road, which is where it is read.

04

Month Nine: Dust, Not Fading

The colour is mostly still there. What has changed is a film of dust across the surface dulling everything evenly. A hose takes it off. Most banners people assume have faded have simply not been washed.

05

Coming Down

A banner that spent a year outdoors usually comes down intact if it went up tight. Many clients keep them for the next phase of the same site.

There is one thing we cannot fix for you. If the fence itself moves, the banner moves with it, and no amount of material or stitching will save a graphic mounted on a panel that flexes in the wind. Related: banner finishing, all banner printing, and large format panel signs for rigid alternatives. Artwork for a hoarding is read at speed from a pavement or a passing car, so it wants about a third of the detail a poster would carry. Big type, one message, and the logo somewhere the eye lands first.
