Printed Paper Coffee Cups in Dubai: A Fan Shaped Blank and a Disc
A paper cup is made from two pieces that look nothing like a cup. A curved fan shaped blank forms the wall and a flat disc forms the base, and both are assembled on a machine at speed. Printed paper coffee cups in Dubai are printed flat as that fan, before anything is rolled.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
Artwork Is Printed on a Curved Blank
The wall blank is a segment of a ring, so artwork has to be distorted to that shape before printing. Straight horizontal lines on the flat blank become curves on the cup, and straight lines on the cup require curves on the artwork. This is handled in prepress and it is why cup artwork cannot be supplied as a plain rectangle.
The Side Seam Overlaps
The blank is wrapped into a cone and the two ends are heat sealed with a few millimetres of overlap. That overlap is a double thickness strip running down the cup, and anything printed across it steps slightly, so logos are positioned away from it.
The Base Disc Is Skirted and Crimped
A disc is pressed into the bottom of the cone with a turned down edge, and the wall is folded up around that skirt and crimped. That joint is what makes the cup watertight and it is entirely mechanical.
The Rim Is Rolled to Take a Lid
The top edge is curled outward into a bead. It stiffens the whole cup, gives a comfortable lip and is the thing a lid snaps onto. A badly rolled rim is why a lid pops off in a car.
Double Wall or a Sleeve
A double wall cup has a second fluted layer bonded around it, insulating the hand and giving a larger printable area. A single wall cup with a separate printed sleeve is cheaper and lets the sleeve change for a campaign while the cup stays plain.
Printed, Formed and Filled With Water
We run a sample through to a finished cup and fill it, because a seam or a base crimp that leaks shows itself in about thirty seconds.
On the lining, we have to be exact. The film that touches the drink is specified and certified by the cup manufacturer, and we print the outside of a cup already made to that specification. Where a plant based lining is used, breaking it down needs industrial composting, so any environmental claim depends on facilities being available locally.
