Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
The Seal Decides Everything
A screw lid with a silicone gasket and a closing slider holds liquid upside down. A push fit lid with a sip hole does not, and it will wet the inside of somebody's laptop bag once before being abandoned. Test the lid, not the finish.
Double Wall Vacuum Does the Insulation
Two stainless walls with a vacuum between them keep heat in for hours and keep the outside cool to hold. A single wall mug conducts straight through, so it burns the hand and goes cold quickly.
It Has to Fit a Car Cup Holder
Most of these spend time in a car. A base much over about seventy five millimetres will not sit in a standard holder, and a mug that has to travel on a passenger seat gets left at home.
Decoration Is Laser or Powder Coat
Laser engraving cuts through the coloured coating to the steel beneath and never wears off. Printing on a coated body looks better in full colour and will scratch at the base where the mug meets a desk. Engraving for longevity, print for colour.
Capacity Changes Who Wants It
Around three hundred and fifty millilitres is a coffee. Five hundred and above is a commuter flask. The larger ones are heavier to carry and the smaller ones get used more often, which is worth knowing before ordering a thousand.
Tested Upside Down on a Sample
Every travel mug we quote gets that inversion test first, because this is the one item where the specification sheet and the reality frequently differ.
Being straight about the seal. We cannot certify any travel mug as leakproof in a bag, and neither can the manufacturer in most cases. What we can do is fill a sample, invert it over a sheet of paper and leave it, and tell you honestly what happened.
