Wooden Name Plates in Dubai: A Material That Keeps Moving
Wood is the only name plate material that is still alive after it is fitted. It takes up moisture, gives it back, and moves slightly with the seasons. Wooden name plates in Dubai are worth having for how they look and worth understanding for how they behave.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
The Grain Decides the Plate
Every piece is different, so two plates cut from one board match and two cut from different boards do not. On a set for a whole floor we cut from a single board where we can, and tell you when we cannot.
Engraving Exposes Raw Fibre
Cutting into wood opens up the fibres inside the letter, which are paler and more absorbent than the sealed surface. That contrast is most of the appeal, and it is also why an unsealed engraved plate picks up dirt in the lettering over time.
Sealing Is Not Optional Here
A lacquer or oil goes over the finished plate including inside the engraved letters. Without it, humidity gets into the cut faces and the plate cups slightly, lifting at the corners.
It Suits Doors, Not Counters
On a door, a wooden plate is touched rarely and cleaned less. On a reception counter it gets wiped down several times a day, and repeated wet cloths are what lift the edges and dull the finish.
Air Conditioning Is the Real Environment
Dubai interiors run dry and cool, and wood responds to that by shrinking very slightly. We account for it in the thickness we choose and by sealing both faces, since a plate finished on one side only will bow towards the unsealed face.
Where It Is Worth It
Director doors, boardrooms, hotel suites and anywhere the material itself is part of the interior and not just a carrier for a name.
We should be direct about outdoors. Wood on an exterior wall or a gate in this climate will not last, whatever finish goes on it. Sun and humidity cycles open the grain within a season. For a gate that wants a warm look, brushed bronze or a dark anodised finish gets you closer than timber will.

Setting up your file.
- 01Send the logo as a vectorLetters and shapes are cut from your outlines, so we need AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, not a screenshot or a JPEG.
- 02Measure the real spaceWidth, height and a straight-on photo of the wall or fascia. The tape measure often disagrees with the drawing.
- 03Send names as textFor plates and directories, send names and titles in a document, so nothing is retyped from an image.
- 04Tell us about power and the wallFor lit signs, where the nearest power point is. For every sign, what the wall is made of.
