Laser Engraved Name Plates in Dubai: How Deep the Letter Goes
Engraving is not a surface decision, it is a depth decision. Laser engraved name plates in Dubai are made by burning the lettering into the material to a set depth, and that depth changes how the plate reads, how it ages and whether it needs filling with colour afterwards.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
Shallow Cuts Read by Shadow
A shallow engrave leaves a fine recess that catches a thin line of shadow. Indoors under even lighting this is enough and it looks refined. Move the same plate into flat light and the lettering nearly disappears.
Deeper Cuts Hold Their Contrast
Going deeper gives a stronger shadow that survives dust settling into the recess, which is why outdoor plates are cut deeper than indoor ones. The trade is time on the machine and a slightly wider character edge.
Infill Makes It Unambiguous
Where contrast matters more than subtlety, the engraved recess is filled with paint. Black infill on brushed metal is the standard office look, and it means the plate reads identically in any lighting because it no longer relies on shadow at all.
Different Materials Cut Differently
Laminate plastics reveal a contrasting core colour as soon as the surface is removed, which needs no infill at all. Metals and timber do not, so they are either cut deeper or filled. The material decides the method.
It Cannot Wear Off
Because the letter is removed material and not applied ink, cleaning, sunlight and hands make no difference to it. A printed plate fades and scratches. An engraved one gets dirty and cleans up.
Consistency Across a Set
Depth, speed and power are recorded with your job, so a plate engraved next year matches the batch from today instead of coming back slightly darker.
The honest limit on engraving is fine detail. Very thin strokes, small text and intricate logo elements can break up at depth, because the beam has a width and the recess has walls. We will tell you at file stage if an element needs simplifying, and we would rather do that than deliver forty plates with a mushy logo.

Setting up your file.
- 01Send the logo as a vectorLetters and shapes are cut from your outlines, so we need AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, not a screenshot or a JPEG.
- 02Measure the real spaceWidth, height and a straight-on photo of the wall or fascia. The tape measure often disagrees with the drawing.
- 03Send names as textFor plates and directories, send names and titles in a document, so nothing is retyped from an image.
- 04Tell us about power and the wallFor lit signs, where the nearest power point is. For every sign, what the wall is made of.
