House Name Plates in Dubai: Passing the Courier Test

Whatever else is on the plate, the number is the part that gets used. Couriers, taxis, maintenance crews and emergency services all find a house by its number. We size the number first and fit the name around it, which is the opposite of how most people brief it.

A dark number on a dark plate is unreadable at any size in low light. Strong contrast between the character and its background is worth more than another two centimetres of height, and it costs nothing.

Plates go beside the entrance at roughly eye height for someone standing, but we check the sight line from a stopped car. Walls, planting and parked vehicles block more plates than poor design does.

In a community of identical units, a plate that ignores the existing style stands out for the wrong reason, and some communities set rules about it. Check with the association before ordering anything unusual.

Outdoor rated stock, deeper engraving so the characters keep their shadow line once dust settles, and standoffs that hold the plate a few millimetres off the wall so water does not sit behind it.
