The Setback Sets the Size
We ask how far the gate post sits from the road and how fast traffic moves on it. Twelve metres back on a thirty kilometre road is a different plate from three metres back on a cul de sac, and the difference is substantial.
The Gate Post Is Not Always the Place
Pillars, boundary walls and the gate itself are all candidates, and the best one is usually whichever is visible before a car has already passed the entrance. We walk the approach from both directions before deciding.
It Is Built Heavier Than Indoor Work
Thicker stock, deeper engraving and larger standoffs. A villa plate is often a single large piece carrying both name and number, and at that size the material has to be stiff enough not to flex when it is handled during fitting.
Name and Number Share the Panel
Family name across the top and the villa number below, or the two side by side where the plate is wide. Keeping both on one panel avoids the common outcome of a handsome name plate beside a small number sticker that somebody added later.
It Lives Outdoors Permanently
Sun, dust and the car wash. Outdoor rated materials, sealed fixings and a finish that tolerates being hosed down are specified as standard for anything going on a gate.
