It Reflects Instead of Blocking
A metallised layer bounces most of the light back the way it came. From outside in daylight you see a mirror. From inside you see out with a slight grey cast and no loss of the view.

By day the sun does the work. By night, with lamps on inside and darkness outside, the mirror flips to the inside face and the window becomes transparent from the street. Curtains still have a job in the evening.
It Rejects Real Heat
Reflecting light also reflects the energy in it, so mirror film is the most effective solar film in the range by a clear margin. On a west facing villa window the difference in afternoon room temperature is something people feel more than they measure.

Light bounced off your window lands on whatever faces it. A neighbour's balcony or a parking space can get noticeably hotter and brighter, and in a dense community that is worth thinking about before you cover a whole elevation.
Buildings Often Have Rules
Many communities and towers specify what may be applied to external glazing, because a mirrored window changes the look of the whole facade. Check with the owners association before ordering, since this is the film most likely to be refused.
Glass Checked Before We Quote
We identify the pane type and thickness first, because the wrong film on the wrong glass is a broken window, not a warranty claim.
The honest engineering point is heat stress. Reflective film on the inside of a double glazed or already tinted unit traps heat in the glass, and toughened glass can crack or a sealed unit can fail. We check the glass build before quoting and sometimes the answer is no.
