The Fibres Are Bonded, Not Woven
Polypropylene fibres are pressed and heat bonded into a sheet. There is no warp and weft, which is why the material has that slightly papery feel and why it can be made so cheaply.
Seams Are Welded, Not Stitched
Edges are fused together with heat and no thread is used at all, so there is nothing to unpick. It is fast and cheap and it is also the weak point, since a welded seam under load peels where a stitched one holds.
It Prints Easily in Bold Colour
The flat surface takes screen printing well and the base material comes in strong colours, so a two colour print on a coloured bag looks sharp for very little. Fine detail is possible here in a way it is not on jute.
Volume Is Where It Makes Sense
At thousands of units the cost per bag becomes very small. This is a bag for a supermarket chain or a large conference, and ordering fifty of them makes no economic sense at all.
It Folds Into Almost Nothing
Non woven bags pack completely flat and weigh very little, so shipping and storing twenty thousand is practical in a way that twenty thousand cotton totes is not.
Seams Pulled on a Sample
We load a sample and pull at the welded seams, since that is the join that decides whether a cheap bag is usable or disposable.
Being direct about the material: non woven polypropylene is a plastic. It is reusable and it is not a natural fibre, so describing it as an eco bag in your own marketing is a claim worth checking carefully before you make it. Cotton and jute are the natural fibre options here.
