The Class Comes From Tape Coverage
High visibility garments are classified by how much fluorescent background and retroreflective tape they carry. A light duty waistcoat and a full coverage vest are different classes, and the class required is stated by whoever controls the site.
Fluorescent and Reflective Do Different Jobs
The bright yellow or orange fabric works in daylight. The grey tape works at night when a headlight hits it. A garment needs both because the two cover different conditions, and neither substitutes for the other.
Branding Has to Avoid the Tape
A logo printed across a reflective band blocks that band, and the garment then carries less working tape than its class assumes. Branding goes on the fluorescent fabric between the bands, which is why the printable areas on a vest are narrow strips.
Heat Transfer Suits the Fabric
Most vest fabric is a light polyester mesh or knit. A heat applied transfer bonds to it cleanly, where screen printing can bleed through an open mesh. The method follows the fabric and not the artwork.
Sizing Has to Fit Over Other Layers
A vest goes over a shirt, sometimes over a jacket. Sized to the body it is too tight to close, so these are ordered a size up from what somebody would normally wear.
Decorated Away From the Bands
We mark up the printable areas on your actual garment and send that for approval, so nobody discovers at delivery that the logo sits across a reflective strip.
We have to be plain about certification. The garments we supply match whatever specification you hand us, and the conformity certificate is issued by the manufacturer and not by us. Confirming which class and which standard your site requires is for you and your safety officer before the order is placed.
