It Is Too Heavy to Move Casually
A life size MDF cutout takes two people to carry and will not be repositioned on a whim. That permanence is the point, and it is also why the position is agreed before it is made.
The Finish Is Painted, Not Printed
MDF takes primer and spray paint beautifully, so these are usually finished in solid colour with applied vinyl detail. The result reads as a built object instead of a printed board.
Edges Are Sealed and Shaped
Cut edges are filled, sanded and sealed, and can be rounded or chamfered. On a thick sheet that edge becomes a visible face in its own right.
It Carries Weight
Shelves, hooks and small fixtures can be screwed into it. No other board in this category takes a fixing, which is often the real reason MDF is chosen.
It Will Not Tolerate Moisture
MDF swells permanently if it gets wet and the swelling cannot be sanded out. These are strictly indoor, and the base needs to sit clear of any floor that gets mopped.
Delivered and Positioned
We deliver and stand these in position, since a large MDF cutout is awkward to handle and the base usually needs levelling or fixing on site. Check the route in before it is built. A large MDF cutout cannot be flexed through a doorway the way a board can, and a piece that will not pass a corridor corner has to be cut and rejoined on site.
Being clear about what you are buying: this is joinery with a cut profile, not a display item. It costs considerably more than any board standee, takes longer to produce and is worth it only where it stays in place for years.
