Computer Stationery in Dubai: Paper That Has to Feed a Machine

This is pre printed paper designed to be fed through a printer and overprinted by an accounting system. Computer stationery in Dubai still runs in logistics, workshops and warehouses, and the specification is set by the machine and the software, not by the design.

How it's made

From your file to the finished job.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.

01 / 06

Sprocket Holes Drive the Paper Through

Continuous stationery has a perforated strip of holes down each edge that a dot matrix tractor feed grips. The strips tear off afterwards along a perforation, which is why the printed area is narrower than the paper.

02 / 06

It Folds Instead of Rolling

Fanfold paper is creased so a continuous length concertinas into a flat stack. That stack sits behind the printer and feeds without a spindle, and it means a thousand forms arrive as one box with no joins.

03 / 06

The Printed Fields Have to Line Up With the Software

Your system prints values at fixed positions. The boxes, rules and field labels we print have to sit exactly where those values land, so we need a sample of the actual system output before we design anything.

04 / 06

Multi Part Sets Produce the Copies

Two, three or four part sets interleave carbonless sheets so one pass of the print head creates a set of copies, usually on different colours for different departments. The colour order is a process decision you specify.

05 / 06

Impact Printing Needs the Right Sheet

A dot matrix head strikes the paper, and carbonless coatings are made for that pressure. Laser paper in a dot matrix produces faint copies, and continuous stationery in a laser printer is a jam waiting to happen.

06 / 06

Trial Set Before the Full Run

A small quantity goes out first for you to run through the actual machine, since an alignment that is two millimetres out across a thousand forms is a thousand wasted forms.

We will say this plainly. Getting alignment right almost always takes one test run on your own printer with your own system. We print a short trial set, you run it, and we adjust from the result. Budgeting for that step is better than discovering it.
