Reception Name Plates in Dubai: The First Thing Anyone Reads

A reception plate is not really a name plate. It is the company signature on the wall behind the desk, read from four or five metres by someone who has just walked in and is deciding what kind of business this is. Reception name plates in Dubai are specified for that distance and that moment.

How it's made

From your file to the finished job.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.

01 / 06

The Viewing Distance Comes First

We measure from the entrance to the wall. That number sets the letter height, and it is almost always larger than people expect. A plate sized for a door at arm's length disappears behind a reception desk.

02 / 06

The Desk Is in the Way

Something usually sits between the visitor and the wall. A monitor, a counter, a plant. The bottom of the sign needs to clear whatever that is, which is why we want a photo from standing height at the door and not a flat elevation drawing.

03 / 06

Depth Does the Work

Reception signs are usually built as individual letters standing off the wall on spacers, not a flat plate. The shadow behind each letter is what gives the wall presence, and it costs very little more than printing the same thing flat.

04 / 06

Finish Is Matched to the Interior

Brushed stainless, painted acrylic or a matt metal in the brand colour. We take a sample to site and look at it against the actual wall under the actual lighting, because a finish chosen from a swatch book in a workshop frequently looks wrong in the room.

05 / 06

Fitting Is Done From a Template

A paper template goes up first so you can stand at the door and look at it before a single hole is drilled. Changes at template stage cost nothing.

06 / 06

After Installation

Drawings and the finish specification go to you, so a later extension to the wall treatment matches what is already there.

We will say the awkward part out loud. Individual letters on a textured or uneven wall will never sit perfectly flat, and the gaps show under a downlight. On a rough wall we would rather mount the whole thing on a backing panel and fix that, which looks deliberate instead of apologetic.

Send the logo as a vectorLetters and shapes are cut from your outlines, so we need AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, not a screenshot or a JPEG.
  • 02
Measure the real spaceWidth, height and a straight-on photo of the wall or fascia. The tape measure often disagrees with the drawing.
  • 03
Send names as textFor plates and directories, send names and titles in a document, so nothing is retyped from an image.
