The Fade Is Built From Dots
A gradient on frost is not a graduated coating. It is thousands of frosted dots that get smaller and further apart as they climb, so the eye reads a smooth fade while the material stays a single uniform film.
Dot Size Decides Whether You See the Trick
Large dots are visible as dots from a metre away and the effect falls apart. Fine dots hold the illusion up close and are what makes the difference between a gradient that looks designed and one that looks like a printing fault.
The Direction Is Yours to Set
Most gradients run dense at the bottom and clear at the top, which matches where privacy is needed. Reversing it screens a standing sightline while leaving a desk view, and a horizontal fade works on a long restaurant window.
It Hides the Top Edge
A flat frosted band always has a visible line where it stops. A gradient simply runs out, so on a full height pane there is no edge to align and nothing to measure against a skirting or a mullion.
Light Changes Through the Day
With the sun behind it the dots almost vanish and the pane reads nearly clear. With a dark corridor behind, the same dots read far stronger. A gradient is the most light dependent film in the range.

The gradient is generated for your exact glass height, so the fade finishes where the glass does instead of being cropped from a standard roll.
The thing to know before committing: a dot gradient can band under certain light, showing faint steps where the dot sizes change. We build the artwork to minimise it, and on a very long pane in direct sun you may still catch it at an angle.
