Unbleached Fibre Is Stronger Fibre
Bleaching weakens paper. Kraft skips it, so the fibres stay long and the sheet resists tearing noticeably better than white paper of the same weight. This is why a kraft bag carries more for the same thickness.
Every Ink Sits on Top of Brown
Printing inks are translucent, so the brown shows through all of them. Yellow goes olive, light blue goes grey, and pastel shades disappear altogether. The usable palette on kraft is dark colours, strong colours and black.
White Has to Be Opaque Ink
There is no white on kraft paper. A white logo needs a solid opaque white ink laid down, and even then it comes out slightly warm. One colour screen printing in white is the most common way these are branded.
A Single Colour Suits the Material
Because the palette is restricted anyway, kraft bags are usually printed in one colour. That works with the material instead of against it, and it is also why these are cheaper to decorate than a laminated white bag.
It Stays Unlaminated by Choice
Most kraft bags are left uncoated so the paper texture and the natural look come through. The trade is that they mark with water and show fingerprints, which for the look people are buying is usually accepted.
