Desk Name Plates in Dubai: Read From the Visitor Chair

A desk name plate is read from one specific position: the chair on the other side of the desk, about a metre away, by somebody who sat down thirty seconds ago and did not catch the name. Desk name plates in Dubai work or fail at that distance and from that angle.

How it's made

From your file to the finished job.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.

01 / 06

It Sits Lower Than You Think

On a desk with a monitor, the plate competes with the screen, the keyboard and a mug. The usable space is the front edge, which is also the part that gets leaned on. That strip decides the length of the plate before anything else.

02 / 06

Two Lines, Not Four

Name on the first line, role on the second. Anything more and the type has to shrink to fit, at which point the visitor cannot read it from where they are sitting and the plate stops doing its only job.

03 / 06

The Back Face Earns Its Place

Printed on both faces, the reverse faces the occupant. On a hot desk or in a shared office this is what lets somebody find their seat. In a private office it is usually unnecessary and we will say so.

04 / 06

The Lean Is Deliberate

Plates sit in a V or lean back a few degrees in a holder. From the visitor chair, a plate standing dead vertical reflects the ceiling lights straight back and becomes a bright strip with no readable text in it.

05 / 06

It Gets Moved Constantly

Desk plates are picked up, put down and knocked. Weight is what keeps them in position, which is why these are cut from thicker stock than a door plate and why a very light plate wanders towards the desk edge.

06 / 06

Matching the Rest

Desk plates are usually made with the door plates in one run so the font, finish and spacing agree across the whole office.

Something to settle before ordering a floor's worth. In open plan offices where people move desks every few months, a slide in holder is the right product and a solid engraved plate is not. The engraved one looks better and will be in a drawer by summer.

Send the logo as a vectorLetters and shapes are cut from your outlines, so we need AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, not a screenshot or a JPEG.
  • 02
Measure the real spaceWidth, height and a straight-on photo of the wall or fascia. The tape measure often disagrees with the drawing.
  • 03
Send names as textFor plates and directories, send names and titles in a document, so nothing is retyped from an image.
