Cubicle Name Plates in Dubai: Fixing to a Fabric Panel

Open plan offices have no doors to put a plate on. What they have is a fabric covered partition, and nothing screws into one. Cubicle name plates in Dubai are built around that limitation, and around the fact that in open plan, people move desks more often than anywhere else in the building.

How it's made

From your file to the finished job.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.

01 / 06

The Panel Will Not Take a Screw

Partition panels are a light frame with fabric over foam. A screw spins in it. Plates therefore hang from the top rail on a hook, clip to the edge of the panel, or stand on the desk surface instead.

02 / 06

Hooks Over the Top Rail

A shaped hook drops over the panel and the plate hangs from it at reading height. No tools, no damage, and it moves to another panel in two seconds. This is the one that suits a team reorganising itself every quarter.

03 / 06

Edge Clips for Lower Panels

Where the panel is low or glazed at the top, a clip grips the edge instead. These need the panel thickness measured, since partition systems vary and a clip that is slightly loose turns to face the wrong way every time somebody walks past.

Slide In Inserts Are the Point

Almost every cubicle plate is a holder with a printed insert, not an engraved plate. Inserts are cheap enough to reprint for a new starter without anyone needing to raise a purchase order.

05 / 06

Double Sided Reads Down the Row

In a long bank of desks, people approach from both directions. A double sided plate hanging perpendicular to the panel is readable walking either way, which is how you find someone in a room of sixty desks.

Reordering

We keep the insert template, so new names are printed and posted without a new setup charge.

The trade off is plain enough. A hanging plate on a hook is the most flexible option and the least smart looking. If the floor is client facing, a fixed plate on the end of each bank looks considerably better and gives up the easy reshuffling.
