Rigid Boxes in Dubai: How a Greyboard Tray Becomes a Box
A rigid box is not printed and folded. It is built. Thick greyboard is cut, taped into a bare tray, then wrapped in a separately printed sheet of paper that is glued down and turned in over every edge. Rigid boxes in Dubai are made this way by hand, piece by piece.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
The Greyboard Is Cut and Scored Flat
Board around one and a half to two millimetres thick is cut as a cross, with the four walls scored so they can be lifted. At this stage it is a dull grey shape with no colour on it anywhere, and it will never be printed on.
Corners Are Taped Into a Tray
The walls are folded up and the corners joined with paper tape or stay tape, which holds them square and takes the load. Those taped corners are the whole structure of the box, and on a cheap one they are the first thing to open.
The Printed Wrap Is a Separate Sheet
Your artwork prints on a thin paper or a specialty stock, cut to a shape that allows for the wall height plus a turn in on every side. It is glued to the bare tray, smoothed over the walls and folded over the top edge into the inside.
The Turn In Hides the Greyboard
That folded over margin, usually ten to fifteen millimetres, is what stops grey board showing at the rim. Where it is skimped you see a grey line along the top edge, which is the quickest way to recognise a poorly made rigid box.
The Lid Is Built a Fraction Larger
A separate lid is made the same way with its internal dimensions a couple of millimetres over the base, plus the thickness of both wraps. Get that clearance wrong and the lid either jams or falls off, and it cannot be corrected after wrapping.
One Built and Fitted Before the Run
We make a single complete box and lid and try them together, because lid clearance on a rigid box is the one dimension no drawing predicts reliably.
The tolerance you cannot avoid is in the wrap itself. Paper glued by hand over board moves slightly as it dries, so a pattern that has to line up precisely across the corner from base to lid will be close and not exact. Designs that break at the corner avoid the problem.
