Hemmed Banners in Dubai: The Fold That Doubles the Life
A hem is the least interesting thing on a banner and the one most likely to decide how long it lasts. Hemmed banners in Dubai get their edges folded back and sealed before any fixing goes near them, and the whole operation takes a couple of minutes per edge.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
Spare Material Is Left at Print
The banner is printed oversize on purpose, with a margin around the artwork. That margin is the hem. A banner printed to exact size has nothing to fold and has to be hemmed with a separate strip, which is weaker and more work.
The Fold Goes Back on Itself
Each edge turns back about two to three centimetres so the material is doubled all the way round. On PVC this is sealed with heat, which welds the two layers into one.
The Weld Cools Under Pressure
The seam is held while it cools. Released too early it can open along part of its length, and a half welded hem looks exactly like a good one until a fixing is put through it.
Fixings Only Go In Afterwards
Eyelets, D-rings and pole pockets are all added into the doubled edge. This is the sequence that matters, and reversing it is the reason banners tear at the fixing hole.
What It Looks Like
A welded hem on PVC is almost invisible from the front, showing only as a very slightly firmer edge. Fabric hems are stitched and show a line.
Not Everything Can Be Welded
Heat welding works on PVC and most solid vinyls. Mesh, fabric and some eco materials will not fuse reliably, so those edges are stitched instead. The finished strength is comparable. It simply means the material decides the method, and we pick it when the job is specified so the hem allowance is right from the start.
The honest position is this. On a banner hung indoors for one evening, a hem genuinely is not needed, and we will say so. It earns its place the moment the banner goes outside or gets used twice.
