Blade and Feather Flags in Dubai: Two Shapes, One Decision
Blade and feather flags look similar from a distance and behave differently in use. Blade and feather flags in Dubai are the two most ordered shapes in the whole sail family, and choosing between them comes down to what the artwork has to do.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
The Blade Is Square at the Top
A blade flag runs straight up and finishes with a squared off top edge, giving an almost rectangular printable area. More of the design survives, so logos and blocks of text sit comfortably.
The Feather Tapers
A feather curves at the top and narrows towards it, which takes a corner off the usable artwork. It looks softer and more traditional, and it is the shape most people picture when they say flag.
Artwork Decides More Than Looks
A tall narrow logo and a single word work on either. A wordmark with any width to it wants a blade, because on a feather the taper eats exactly the area a horizontal logo needs.
Both Hold Open Without Wind
Same curved pole, same full length sleeve, same rotating base. Neither depends on a breeze to be readable, which is the point of the whole family.
Height Changes the Proportion
At two metres the difference between the shapes is subtle. At five metres the feather taper is pronounced and the blade reads as a tall banner. Choose the shape at the final height, not from a small sample.
Supplied the Same Way
Pole, flag, base and carry bag, with the flag reprintable against the same hardware for years. Where a frontage takes several flags, mixing the two shapes along a run looks unsettled. Pick one shape for the row and vary the artwork instead. Height is worth deciding against what is around the flag instead of in isolation. Outside a showroom with a high glazed frontage a three metre flag disappears, while the same flag on a narrow shopfront dominates it.
Being straightforward about wind: both of these present more area to a gust than a teardrop does. On an exposed forecourt with nothing around it, a teardrop will give you less trouble, and we would say so before quoting.
Compare with teardrop flags, curved top flags, and sail flags.

Setting up your file.
- 01Work at full size or to scaleBuild the file at full size, or at a stated scale such as 1:10 when the canvas gets too big, and tell us the scale.
- 02Match resolution to distanceSomething read from a few metres away needs far less resolution than a business card. Around 100 dpi at full size is usually plenty.
- 03Tell us how it will be fixedHems, eyelets, pole pockets and frames take up material around the edge. Tell us the fixing and prepress allows for it.
- 04Send logos as vectorsAI, EPS, SVG or PDF keeps edges sharp at large sizes. Embed or outline the fonts.
Quick answers.
Blade for wide logos, feather for a softer traditional look.
Neither. A teardrop beats both.
Yes, on the same base. The pole set differs.
