Finishing Line Flags in Dubai: The Last Twenty Metres
A finish line is the most photographed point of any race, and it exists for about three seconds per competitor. Finishing line flags in Dubai dress that point for runners, cyclists and karting events, where the flags have to be visible from a distance and look right in a photograph taken at speed.

Six steps happen between the brief and the finished job. Here they are, in the order they happen on our floor in Dubai South.
It Has to Be Readable From Far Back
A competitor needs to see the line while there is still time to push for it. Flags are sized and positioned so the finish is identifiable from well down the course, not just at the tape.
Chequered Reads Instantly
The black and white chequer is understood without explanation in any language, which is why it survives on finish gantries that otherwise carry sponsor branding.
Both Sides of the Course Are Dressed
Flags are run in pairs so the line reads as a gate. A single flag on one side is ambiguous from a distance and photographs badly.
Photography Decides the Height
Camera positions matter here more than on any other flag job. Flags set too low appear behind the runners' heads, and too high they leave the frame entirely. We agree the camera position before setting the height.
Wind at the Line Is a Risk
This is the one place a toppling flag is dangerous. Bases are over specified at the finish, and in exposed conditions we anchor instead of weighting.
Reused Season to Season
Chequered flags are generic and hardware is durable, so most organisers buy once and reprint only the sponsor flags each year. Sponsor flags at the line are the most photographed items at any race, so we proof those colours carefully even when the rest of the order is standard chequered stock. Agree who owns the kit after the event. Finish line hardware is generic and reusable, and organisers who buy once and store it properly stop paying for the same structure at every subsequent race.
Worth planning properly: the finish is usually assembled in the last hour before a race and dismantled immediately after, often in the dark. Kit that goes together without tools is not a convenience here, it is what makes the schedule possible.
