Soft Ground Takes a Spike
Grass, sand and compacted earth allow a ground spike, which is the cheapest and most stable fixing there is. Nothing sits on the surface and nothing can be tripped over.
Hard Ground Needs Weight on Top
Tiles, tarmac and marble cannot be pierced, so the stand carries ballast. Water bases, steel plates or filled cross bases, all of which have to be sized for the full height of the stand.
Covered Areas Change the Rules
Under a canopy or a soffit, wind drops dramatically and lighter structures become viable. A mall entrance is outdoors by location and indoors by behaviour.
Permanent Positions Can Be Fixed
Where a stand lives in one place for years, bolting to the ground is both cheaper and safer than ballast. That needs the landowner's permission and a decision that the position will not move.
Materials Follow Exposure
Anything in full sun needs UV stable print and a substrate rated for heat. The same stand in constant shade can use materials that would fail within a season on an open forecourt.
Surveyed Before Quoting
For anything of size we look at the position, because photographs rarely show what the ground is made of or how exposed it actually is. Ask who moves it and how often. A stand repositioned weekly needs handles, a manageable weight and a base that drains, while one that never moves can be heavier and simpler, and those are different products from the same brief.
Being direct about what we will not do: we will not supply an under ballasted stand for an exposed position because it looks neater. If the honest answer is a larger base than you wanted, we will quote that and explain why.
