It Is Deeper Than a Fabric Wall
The frame has to be thick enough for light to spread behind the graphic. That depth is floor space, and on a small stand it is the first thing that has to be justified.
Modules Lock Into a Grid
Large walls are built from linked frame sections with their own lighting inside each. That modularity is what lets a four metre wall travel in cases and go up in a few hours.
Joins Are the Difficult Part
Where two lit modules meet, the seam can read as a dark line if the lighting stops short of the edge. Properly specified frames light right to the join, and the wall reads as one surface.
Heat Needs Somewhere to Go
A wall of lit panels running for eight hours a day generates real heat behind the fabric. Ventilation is designed in, which also keeps the colour stable through the show.
Power Is a Stand Requirement
These need a dedicated supply ordered from the venue, and that order usually closes weeks before the show. It is the most common thing missed on a backlit stand.
Trial Built Before It Ships
The whole wall is assembled, lit and checked here, because finding an uneven module at midnight in a hall is not a recoverable situation. Order the power supply from the venue early. Electrical orders at most halls close weeks before build up and cost considerably more on site, and a backlit wall with no supply is simply a dark fabric wall.
The straightforward point about cost: a backlit wall is several times the price of the same area in printed fabric. On a stand in a bright hall it can be the difference between being noticed and not. In a dim hall it is unnecessary.
